Our History
David Crockett Elementary School, located in Phoenix, Arizona, is part of the Balsz School District, which has a rich history dating back to 1857. While early records are sparse, Balsz School officially opened on October 29, 1888, thanks to the efforts of Luz Redondo Balsz, who gathered eleven children to start the first class. Over the years, the district expanded to accommodate growing student numbers, evolving from a one-room schoolhouse to modern facilities.
Crockett Elementary was constructed in 1955 at 501 North 36th Street, relieving the overcrowding at Balsz School. It started as a new facility with 14 classrooms, a home economics room, and a library. Over time, Balsz District continued to grow, adding schools like Brunson-Lee in 2003.
Today, Crockett Elementary, like other schools in the district, serves grades K-5, continuing a long tradition of commitment to student education and community growth.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Welcome to Crockett School. We are excited to have you and your children join us as we start this unique 2022-23 school year and Crockett's 67th year of providing interactive, rigorous, and diverse learning opportunities.
As I begin my ninth year as principal of David Crockett School and my thirtieth year in education, I am consistently energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in your children's lives. By addressing school culture, setting high standards for teacher performance, increasing academic expectations for all students, and working to engage the community, our goal at David Crockett School is that all our students are competitive at whatever they choose to pursue. Crockett will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all children and providing supportive systems to ensure they are met.
Crockett offers a variety of academic offerings, including rigorous classes, Mindfulness, Skate After School, Playworks, Dance/Theater, and the list keeps growing with opportunities that will support our Crockett Bears to gain the tools to make them the best. In addition, the school will continue to offer high levels of technology, and students may join after-school tutoring and sports or participate in the Balsz Boys and Girls Club. I am pleased to share some of our school's exciting and outstanding programs.
We embrace the challenges of the future while we continue to cherish and celebrate the traditions of the past. Our exceptional staff, involved parents, and committed students, unite to make Crockett School a wonderful and unique place.
We hope your visit to our website will give you a quick snapshot of life at our school. Please explore our links to find out more about the curriculum, programs, and daily events at Crockett School.

Sincerely,
Sean M. Hannafin
